| James J. Blascovich has been awarded the 2007 Gordon
Allport Intergroup Relations Prize from the Society for the Psychological
Study of Social Issues (SPSSI) for his paper, "Threatened
by the Unexpected: Physiological Responses During Social Interactions
with Expectancy-Violating Partners" published in the Journal
of Personality and Social Psychology (with Wendy Mendes, Sarah
Hunter, Brian Lickel, and John Jost).
The Allport award is given to "the best paper or article of
the year on intergroup relations" - a field which includes
such dimensions as age, gender, and socioeconomic status, as well
as ethnicity. Originality of the contribution, whether theoretical
or empirical, is given special weight in the selection.
